Principal welcome address
Federal Government Girls’ College, Umuahia was established in 1995 on the site of the former Women’s Training College, in the lush valleys of old Umuahia in Abia State. The pioneer Principal, Mrs. C. N. Enwo, administered the college from the premises of the Federal Inspectorate Services, Umuahia, and at inception, there were few staff and only nine (9) students. The Pioneer students’ population however grew up to 255 at the end of the session.

Our History
Federal Government Girls’ College, Umuahia was established in 1995 on the site of the former Women’s Training College, in the lush valleys of old Umuahia in Abia State. The pioneer Principal, Mrs C. N. Enwo, administered the college from the premises of the Federal Inspectorate Services, Umuahia, and at inception there were few staff and only nine (9) students. The Pioneer students’ population however grew up to 255 at the end of the session.
The college, which has experienced a tremendous infrastructural transformation, has produced many students who have served as veritable tools for national development. The college has had the honour of being administered by notable Principals that include Mrs C.N ENWO, Ms. G. U. Eseonu, Ms.C. U. Ekpo (late) and Mrs S. N. Madu who retired from service in August 2013.

Infrastructural development
It has been a phenomenal growth that a college which started with a few staff and 9 students can boast of over 200 staff and 2687 students in the 2013/2014 academic session. In contrast to the old dilapidated structures inherited at inception, the existing infrastructure can compete favourably with any other institution of its status. The Federal Ministry of education has taken this centre of academic excellence to greater heights by constructing an ultra-modern e-library in the college.
